The Navarino area is located in the southwestern tip of Greece, in Messinia, in the Peloponnese. The name is Venetian and the historical events of the area begin from the Mycenaean years until the Middle Ages, while the naval battle played a very important role in the liberation of modern Greece. The Palace of Nestor in the area of modern Ano Eglianos, about 9 km from Navarino’s bay, is a unique building and it has found the world’s oldest bathtub!
Finally, two battles were held in the area, one in 425 BC, the battle of Sfaktiria , where the Athenians defeated the Spartans and the naval battle of Navarino, where the allied fleet of the British Empire, the Kingdom of France and the Russian Empire against the Turkish Egyptians.
In the Odyssey, Homer states:
… and cognitive Telemachus answered and said•
Everything, my mother, I believe,
In Pylos and in Nestor we have reached this point,
in my high palaces he accepted me with love
and pain, in which she accepts a parent’s confinement,
in the past few years, who have been planning for years
likewise these and his reverend sons have received me,
and he said that he did not hear the world
if he was dead or alive, the brave Ulysses.
